  1. UNDP

Under a broader framework of the Memorandum of Agreement signed between the UNDP and DAL Group in March 2018, this project was launched in pursuit of advancing the mutual interests of both parties and ultimately supporting the recovery of development processes in Sudan. The goal of the intended intervention is to improve the livelihoods of livestock producers in the Ed ElFursan locality by increasing the production of local livestock and facilitating links between producers and reliable partners such as DAL Food. Through the provision of services addressing the needs of the vulnerable population, we aim to eliminate production and marketing obstacles including water shortages, rangeland degradation, and animal health issues. This pilot phase can be scaled up based on the lessons learned and the identified opportunities. The key strategies and activities envisaged under this project include the following:

  • Production and market system assessments
  • Community and beneficiary mobilisation and registration
  • Formation of Livestock (Cattle) Producers Association
  • Establishment of negotiated forward-purchasing agreements
  • Support of improvement of rangelands
  • Support of breed improvement
  • Support of livestock health services
  • Support of marketing information, livestock aggregation, and marketing services
  • Support of ancillary services including provision of animal feed, water, education, training, and more.
  • Strengthening productive assets based in production areas
  • Addressing cross-cutting issues through innovative partnerships with other agencies
